Marcella Caes writes character-driven urban fantasy about finding warmth, connection, and happiness in a world that don’t always make those things easy. Her stories are firmly grounded in the real world, where people make logical choices, actions have consequences, and the fantastic has to find room among the inconvenient realities of being human.

She’s particularly interested in found family, implicit queer acceptance, and constellations of people who love each other very much (and have even learned to communicate about it). At their heart, her stories are about the people we find in an imperfect world, and the happiness we can build together.

Based on the Canadian West Coast, Marcella has spent much of her career teaching at the college level. Outside of writing, she bounces absentmindedly between hobbies, consumes unreasonable quantities of anime, rotates faithfully between approximately three video games, and overshares her hot takes whenever someone makes the mistake of asking.
